Okay so I'm not one who usually follows trends or get caught up in the hype.
I usually do my own thing but I could not help but to get on this fried oyster mushroom wave that I keep seeing on social media and wow just wow…
That's all I got….
The main thing I kept hearing is that they taste like fried chicken and that is absolutely correct.
Once I started eating them, I could not stop because each piece was so juicy and had so much indescribable flavor, that I almost thought I was eating some chicken. It was crazy and then to top things off, I decided to dip the pieces into some siracha and when I tell you that this decision put everything right over the edge??? 🤯
Mmmmmmmm….
My palate was just exploding with juice texture and flavor like never before and I'm not even exaggerating.
Fried Oyster Mushrooms Dipped In Siracha Sauce
Another thing that was really interesting is when I took the mushroom cluster out of the pack, there was a fishy or almost crab leg like smell to them and I thought they had gone bad at first. But after doing a little bit of research, I learned that the smell is normal and it's the whole reason why they're called oyster mushrooms. They smell like seafood before you prep and get them ready for seasoning and frying. So that's just an FYI, so you won't be taken aback by this like I just was 😆.
Another thing is, I went to a local Vietnamese grocery store to get about a pound and a half or so, for only like seven dollars! I know if you get them from Whole Foods, you're going to probably pay almost three times that, so just always pay attention to your local ethnic markets to get them from because you can get them for just a fraction of the cost.
Fresh Oyster Mushrooms
If you know anything about mushrooms being a meat replacement, that would usually be the portobello. So not only do these oysters look like fried chicken, because of the way you season them by dipping, putting them in a batter or flour, the texture was so good and plentiful and so full of moisture, they made you think you were eating meat.
I will definitely be making these again.
